Amputees
“A new generation of adjustable socket technology that can change your life”
BlackFin technology was developed for amputees that required a mechanical volume management system (VMS) that also helped maintain the socket fit in water and salty environments. “Our clients needed a durable socket system that could survive the harshest of conditions. Lighter weight, lower profile, durability, esthetics… were the goals.
AWARD WINNING DESIGN
Blackfin Biomechatronics is pleased to have been selected as the winner of the 2024 BIZ West IQ awards.
BlackFin Biomechatronics won in the Life Sciences category for its adjustable socket system. The prosthetic device that allows amputees to adjust the interior dimensions of a prosthetic socket.
Take Control of Your Socket Fit
The BLACKFIN SPINNER VMS socket systems puts control back in the hands of the amputee.
Prosthetic sockets are typically built in a static shape with no adjustability. The bodies Limb volume is constantly changing. Limb size constantly changes from when we wake to when we sleep. With increased activity, fluid can be pushed out of the limb more rapidly, causing a loose socket fit. This allows the bones in the limb to move more in the socket. Oftentimes, allowing the skeletal anatomy to press into the hard socket wall which can be painful and potentially cause soft tissue injury.
BlackFin’s volume adjustable socket technology that allows users to fine tune the fit as well as the socket forces to improve prosthetic comfort and performance. Mechanical dials load specific areas of the socket and relieve sensitive pressure areas during activity. Socket forces can be adjusted independently within the socket to help redistribute socket pressures on the limb depending on the activity or terrain.
With a turn of a dial The SPINNER system provides complete socket volume control and the ability to adapt & acclimatize socket pressures during any activity. Increase or decrease socket volume simply by turning the dial on the socket.
INCREASE OR DECREASE SOCKET VOLUME
DESIGNED FOR THE LIFESTYLE YOU LEAD
- Maintain proper volume control and experience
- Improved skeletal control and stability
SPINNER VMS ADVANTAGES
ADJUSTABILITY WITH STYLE.... SLEEK SOCKET LINES
Aesthetic Look, Nice finish, no cable veins or loose panels.
Durable Lightweight Socket
Internal panels reduce the weight of the socket as It can be made with a single lamination (most cable systems require the cable guides to be sandwiched between 2 laminations. No panel cut outs that weaken the socket structure.
2 SPINNER SYSTEMS TO FIT YOUR LIFESTYLE: HIDEX AND LOW PRO
HIDEX
The HIDEX SPINNER option provides for easy fast adjustment on the fly. The control dial on the system is permanently attached to the drive system. The HIDEX has a higher profile on the socket.
LOPRO
The LOPRO SPINNER option features a removable dial. The dial acts as a Key tool to adjust the drive mechanism, making the profile of the system significantly lower that the HIDEX
Suspension
The SPINNER VMS system can used as an adaptable mechanical suspension on challenging amputations such as knee, elbow and symes amputations. (Note: Use in this manner is not covered under the L5783 CODE)
Frequently Asked Questions
The SPINNER drive post can be removed from a finished socket and the socket will function like a traditional socket (the base unit and other hardware remain in the socket wall).
Yes! Your prosthetist can install the SPINNER system in a check socket. Even in a permanent socket.
Yes. The BF SPINNER can be installed into your socket as a precaution with minimal cost. At any time in the future your socket can be converted to an adjustable socket system.
